PlayStation has revealed a brand new trailer for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, showing off the jaw-dropping next-gen graphics, universe-hopping powers and a new playable Lombax character.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is also confirmed to be the focus of the next State of Play video presentation from PlayStation, which will take place this Thursday 29 (April 29) at 2pm Pacific / 10pm UK time.
If you’re not familiar with Rift Apart, this is an ambitious new platformer from Insomniac (the creators of Resistance and Marvel’s Spider-Man), and the first new title in the franchise for several years. It will be exclusive to the PS5, with the new SSD tech making a future PS4 port extremely unlikely.
The Ratchet and Clank series is renowned for giving players an arsenal of wacky sci-fi weapons and gadgets, and the upcoming entry looks no different in that regard. But trailers show this is by far the best looking entry in the series to date, while welcoming back beloved characters such as Dr. Nefarious.

The new trailer shows off the incredible graphics, as Insomniac takes advantage of the PS5’s power. The footage also gave us a better look at the new playable female Lombax, who has finally been revealed to have the name Rivet. Check out the trailer here:
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart release date – When is it coming out?
PlayStation has reconfirmed that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will launch on 11 June 2021.
With the release date fast approaching, we’re becoming increasingly confident that we won’t see any delays.
Pre-orders are open for Rift Apart right now, with Insomniac offering the Carbonox Armor as well as the Pixelizer Weapon for free for those who take the plunge ahead of release.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart price – How much will it cost?
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is currently listed on both Amazon and the PlayStation Store as £69.99/$69.99 for the standard edition, and £79.99/$79.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition.
The Digital Deluxe Edition is confirmed to feature five armour sets, a digital art book and soundtrack, Photo Mode Sticker Pack and 20 Raritanium that can be used to upgrade your weapons.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart gameplay – What’s new?
The core gameplay found in the opening trailer retains many elements of the franchise that fans will find familiar. You’ll still be roaming around large environments taking out enemies and collecting bolts, a currency that can be spent on buying new items and upgrading your wild assortment of gadgets and weapons.
However, we’ve spotted a few new additions and refinements that weren’t present in the 2016 outing. For starters, Ratchet can now dash backwards while strafing, making it easier to avoid the attacks of enemies in hectic situations. Four new weapons were also sported in the form of the Burst Pistol, Shatterbomb, Enforcer and Topiary Sprinkler. Goodness knows what that last one is capable of.
Ratchet can also use a new gadget known as a Rift Tether which pulls him towards and allows him to travel through a variety of portals. This will likely translate to far larger environments, something Insomniac Games has said is only possible with the obscene power offered by the PlayStation 5. Here’s hoping these levels are super fun to explore!
The recent trailer also showed that a new female Lombax called Rivet will be playable. It’s unclear whether she will have unique skillsets, or will essentially just be a reskinned version of Ratchet. Either way, Rift Apart looks like an absolute blast and we can’t wait to jump in.
