Samsung’s working on a rugged variant of the Galaxy S9 with a massive battery

Samsung is working on a ruggedised variant of the Galaxy S9 – dubbed the Galaxy S9 Active – that’s equipped with a massive 4000mAh battery, according to a leaked spec sheet that appeared online on April 24.

But before we go any further, let’s get one thing straight: the spec sheet was obtained by a dubious-looking website we’ve never heard of before, so we’d suggest taking all the following details with an artery-clogging dollop of salt.

The Galaxy S9 Active, which bears the model number SM-G893 – the subsequent successor to the Galaxy S8 Active (SM-G892) and the Galaxy S7 Active (SM-G891) – is alleged to feature a flat 5.8-inch screen, a Snapdragon 845 and 4GB of RAM.

Ready Tricks, the source of the leak, also claims that the unit sports the same camera setup as the Galaxy S9, with a single 12MP dual aperture sensor (f/1.5 and f/2.4) on the rear and an 8MP one (f/1.7) on the front, and 64GB of internal storage.

But what we’re most interested in is the Galaxy S9 Active’s battery. It’s supposedly a 4000mAh cell, which would put it on par with the Huawei P20 Pro. That’s also the same size battery Samsung is expected to bake into the upcoming Galaxy Note 9.

There’s no word on when exactly the Galaxy S9 Active will be announced, let alone hit the shelves, though Ready Tricks has reason to believe Samsung will take the wraps off it sometime in Q3 (July, August and September) of 2018.
