We’ve been expecting to see Samsung launch a ruggedised version its Galaxy S8 flagship for some time, and the Galaxy S8 Active now seems to be just around the corner, if the latest spec leak is to be believed.
Photos appearing to show Galaxy S8 Active presentation slides were posted on popular Chinese microblogging site Weibo (H/T FoneArena), giving us what looks like our first official look at the incoming device’s specs.
If the snaps are legitimate, the S8 Active will maintain a number of the S8’s key features, including a 5.8-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 835 SoC backed up by 4GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage plus microSD card slot, and a 12-megapixel primary (rear) camera.
On the front side, there will be an 8-megapixel ‘selfie’ snapper, but that’s more or less where the similarities end – as you’d expect, there are some key differences between the two as well.
The first thing you should know is that the S8 Active is something of a heffalump, weighing in at 208g compared to the S8’s 155g scale-tip.
The extra heft brings a few obvious benefits, though, with the S8 Active set to pack a 4000mAh battery – a significant step up from the S8’s 3000mAh cell.
Like the Galaxy S8 proper, it’ll be dust and water resistant to the IP68 standard, but it also boasts MIL-STD-810G certification, meaning it should be impervious to all manner of shocks, drops, and extreme temperatures.
