Galaxy Note 7 screen repair cost: Let’s hope Gorilla Glass 5 works

Owners of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 are going to have to be extra careful with the new phablet, judging by repair costs revealed on Monday.

According to Samsung’s support staff in the US, it’ll cost users a whopping $270 (around £205) if an unfortunate drop befalls them.

That’s the price of a fairly passable mid-range smartphone.

Of course, given the technology contained within the display and the newness of the smartphone, this perhaps isn’t a surprise.

The 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display is not only rated as one of the best in the world, but is also the first beneficiary of the new Gorilla Glass 5 display tech.

The newest generation glass has been designed explicitly to be more resistant to drops from between waist and shoulder height.

A TechByZach drop test published earlier today, saw the Samsung device perform well against the iPhone 6S and the Note 5 predecessor when dropped face down from pocket height.

Beyond that, the Note 7 also displays IP68 waterproofing capabilities, so if you want that retained after the phone is fixed, you’ll be much better off going through the official channels.

As Ubergizmo points out, Samsung does have a $129 warranty, which guards against two instances of accidental damage. However, there’s a $60 excess on any claims.

Our sage advice? Don’t drop it.
