The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 could be in line for another calamitous recall, following reports of a replacement handset spontaneously combusting on a plane.
Samsung has been desperately scrambling to replace up to 2.5 million handsets with faulty batteries.
However, earlier this week a Note 7 owner claimed his new and supposedly-safe handset began smoking in his pocket while boarding a Southwest Airlines jet.
The Note 7 in question even had the black sticker on the box Samsung uses to identify safe handsets.
If this proves to be the case, Samsung may have no choice but to make a second and potentially permanent recall, according to a former director of the Consumer Product Safety Commission in the US.

If this is the case, then it would be difficult to see Samsung attempting a third release of the handset before the end of the year.
It is, of course, possible that this was a freak coincidence coming at the worst possible time for Samsung.
