Future Nexus phones to have ‘insanely great cameras’ says Google

Teasing the upcoming follow-on to the Google Nexus 4, official Google spokespeople have suggested that future Nexus phones will land with ‘insanely great cameras’.

Offering a tantalising insight into Google’s upcoming hardware offerings, the company’s head of Google+ , Vic Gundotra has suggested that future Nexus smartphones will allow users to totally replace their compact digital cameras, using the handsets as a primary camera offering.

In a Google+ posting on his dilemma of selecting which camera to take on holiday alongside his Android handset and prototype Google Glass headset, Gundotra, responding to a commentator’s question suggested future Nexus devices will feature largely improved cameras.

“We are committed to making Nexus phones insanely great cameras,” Gundotra said. “Just you wait and see.”

With more than 1 million Google Nexus 4 handset having already sold despite continued stock shortages, Google is largely expected to follow-up its latest handset offering with a new Google Nexus 5 release, alongside the widely expected Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie OS at Google I/O later this year.

With many high-end smartphones currently making it to market with 13-megapixel rear-mounted cameras in tow, the largely rumoured HTC One is widely expected to buck current trends when unveiled later today and feature a 4-ultrapixel snapper.

Reportedly the next evolution of the smartphone camera market, HTC has been mooted to be forgoing the higher-number specs race in order to focus on improved pixel quality, increasing the fine detail of images to create a handset capable of shooting sharp, detailed images in lower light conditions that current models.

Are smartphone cameras in need of dramatic overhauls or are you happy with how your handset’s snapper currently performs? Let us know via the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.
