Full Details of Galaxy Nexus Emerge [Update]

The fact that Samsung and Google will launch the latest
Nexus phone next Tuesday will be about as much of a surprise as someone crying
on the X Factor stage because their dead cat always wanted them to sing – but
ahead of that launch we’ve gotten a sneak peak at the phone’s specs and its new
name, the Galaxy Nexus.

Website BGR has received all the specs from a “trusted source” and we have to say that
they do seem to stack up with what we’ve been hearing up until now.

The Galaxy Nexus will have a 4.65in Supoer AMOLED HD curved
glass screen (just shy of the 4.7in screen seen on the HTC Sensation XL} but will have a much higher resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

It will be just 9mm thin and feature a dual-core Texas
Instruments OMAP 4460 Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It will have 1GB
of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, which will be a first for an Android
phone.

It will have a 5 megapixel camera on the rear, capable of
1080p HD video capture, and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. It will have
LTE/HSPA support depending on carrier (and of course whether you live in a
country with a working 4G network), Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC and a 1750mAh battery.

The Galaxy Nexus of course will be the launch also of
Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the version of the OS which aims to unify the
tablet (3.x) and smartphone (2.x) strands of Android. According to BGR, the
Galaxy Nexus will run a pure flavour of Android with no TouchWiz modifications.

Update: According to Pocket-lint Samsung has cancelled the Unpacked event scheduled for next Tuesday with Samsung and Google issuing the following statement:

“Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new
product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the
right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly
announced.”

There is speculation that the sad death of Steve Jobs may have led to this decision with the funeral possibly taking place early next week and holding a major press event at the same time would be seen as inappropriate.

We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear any more information and when a new date for the event is announced.
