Fujitsu Launches Amilo Graphics Booster

High-end graphics on a portable notebook? Sign me up!

It’s been a while coming, but finally the Fujitsu Amilo GraphicBooster has actually made it to market. More than can be said for rival external-GPU solution, the Asus ROG XG Station, which seems destined never to be come a ‘real’ product. Although currently the GraphicBooster seems available only in conjunction with Fujitsu’s Amilo Sa 3650 laptop, but hopefully that will change soon.

The GraphicBooster, in case you can’t remember or never knew, is a pretty funky piece of kit. Connected via an ExpressCard slot, the GraphicBooster packs an AMD ATI Radeon HD 3870 GPU which, as the name betrays, can take over video processing from the notebooks own graphics chip providing a boost to performance.

In addition to the boost in graphics, the GraphicBooster also provides a further two video outputs, one DVI and one HDMI which, coupled with a laptops screen and its own video out means up to four simultaneous displays can be used. Pretty impressive for a notebook! Further, the GraphicBooster also packs a pair of USB ports, ideal for having a keyboard and mouse plugged into – the GraphicBooster is almost certainly going to be permanent desk installation after all.
