Frozen Windows 10 PC? Microsoft brings the heat to thaw Anniversary Update

Microsoft has rolled out a fix a Windows 10 Anniversary Update bug that has been causing users to experience random freezes.

The Windows 10 cumulative update KB3176938 landed on Wednesday, which should eradicate the problem.

Microsoft is advising folks who downgraded to Windows 10 following the issue can now restore the Anniversary update with the fix built in.

In a statement, the firm wrote (via Softpedia): “After the launch of the Anniversary Update for Windows 10, Microsoft received a small number of reports of Windows 10 freezing when signing into Windows after installing the Anniversary Update.

With the help of users and MVP’s who posted on this thread an investigation determined that a small fraction of users who had moved app information to a second logical drive could encounter this issue,” the company explains.

However, Windows 10 Anniversary users may not be out of the woods yet.

Microsoft admits a number of users may still experience some freezes if they had two logical drives and have moved app data to a second drive.

The company has listed steps to fix within the answer section of a blog post.
