Fortnite News: Epic Games Detail New High Stakes LTM Coming to Fortnite

Following an overnight stream, Epic Games has detailed Fortnite’s High Stakes limited time event, and suffice to say, this is one LTM you won’t want to miss.

The biggest news from the stream comes in the form of a new game mode titled Getaway. In this mode, teams drop into the map as usual with the intention of locating one of four safes containing a Llama Gem.

While the safes open like normal chests, the opening timer has increased, meaning setting up your team in defensive positions is key to retrieving the gem and making it out alive.

With the gem in tow, it’s then a case of making it to a designated getaway vehicle. The downside? If other players spot the getaway bus before your team does they can fortify the area surrounding it. It’s not quite as simple as it sounds, eh?

Alongside the newest LTM is a new weapon called the grappler. As the name suggests, this gun allows you to fire a plunger at a surface, and when it hits, it zips the player over. It’s a grappling hook essentially. This could be a great addition if you’re looking to close the gap and get in someone’s face, or for when someone somehow manages to get the high ground before you.

Fortnite High Stakes LTM Getaway Challenges

If that’s not enough there’s also a new skin, Wild Card – complete with a set of four different masks – and a new set of challenges, which unlock XP, a new spray, trail, and pickaxe. Each of the four challenges are detailed below:

  • Play 10 matches of getaway – 5,000 XP
  • Deal 500 damage to jewel-carrying opponents – new spray
  • Pick up a jewel in five different matches – money trail
  • Complete all three challenges – crowbar pickaxe

But when will the event start, you ask? Unfortunately, due to a critical controller issue found a day before the planned release, the event has been pushed back slightly, and will now start on Thursday, September 6.
