Fortnite has already made over $1 billion from in-game purchases

Epic Games’ Fortnite Battle Royale has already amassed over $1 billion in revenue across all platforms.

The F2P experience is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC and iOS as a free download, and is unquestionably the biggest game in the world right now.

This huge financial milestone comes from a Superdata report, showing a progressive increase in revenue since an explosion in popularity in October 2017.

Numbers seemed to steady out in May 2018, although Epic Games still walked away with a staggering $318 million in revenue, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Much of Fortnite’s success can be attributed to Epic Games’ approach to content updates, with Season 5 having just launched with a plethora of new features.

The premise of Season 5 has seen the universe of Fortnite split apart, represented by massive cracks in the sky and new locations spread across the map.

It’s clearly just a creative excuse for Epic Games to add a more diverse range of skins, whether it be ancient vikings, ninjas, lifeguards and more. There’s a lot to choose from.

Combine this with a consistent delivery of new weapons, equipment and alterations the gameplay and you’ve got an experience that always feels fresh. It’s free-to-play nature is simply a cherry on top.

Fortnite will likely be around for years to come, and watching it evolve with each seasonal update is genuinely fascinating. Whatever Season 6 has in store, we’re eager to see it.
