Ford’s self-driving cars are coming to the UK next year
Ford’s efforts to create self-driving cars to power next-generation ride-sharing services are about to touch down on UK soil.
Next year the company is bringing its in-development autonomous vehicles to its Engineering Centre in Essex as well as its Research & Advanced Engineering centres in Germany.
Both facilities are currently working on Ford’s existing and forthcoming driver-assist efforts, Ford has reportedly told TechCrunch, so the move makes sense.
Ford is also reporting the results of a survey in Europe which found that only 16% of some 4,000 respondents would trust autonomous vehicles to ferry the kids to and from school.
However, those folks would seemingly like to make use of the time spent not at the wheel.
64% of respondents said they’d use the time to eat, while 72% want to have all of the phone conversations they don’t have anymore due to the business of modern life.
Earlier this year Ford began taking journalists for test drives in its autonomous vehicles, which it hopes will be available for the public to buy by the middle of the next decade.
