Want Ford’s GT supercar? You’ll have to pass a loyalty test first

There’s plenty of buzz about the new Ford GT supercar, but actually getting one isn’t easy.
Ford has confirmed that it plans to perform extensive vetting on people who want to buy the new 2017 Ford GT.
The automaker is producing 250 GTs that will be available for sale at the end of this year, all of which will be subject to the test.
The process – which involves an online application – will reward customers who have been loyal to the brand.
Ford hopes that the cars will go to buyers that will actually drive the car, rather than keep them off-road or re-sell them.

“There’s a loyal following to the car,” said Raj Nair, Ford’s product chief, speaking to the Detroit News.
He continued: “We want to prioritise people who are going to care about the car, keep the car, and drive the car.”
The test will ask questions like how many Ford vehicles a person has owned, as well as requesting information about how often a buyer plans to drive the car. Ford will also probe how active a person is on social media.
“It will try to understand what your relationship with Ford is,” added Nair.
Applicants will also have to sign a contract that means they can’t sell the vehicle for a (currently undecided) length of time.

It’s alleged that some would-be customers have handed Ford blank cheques in hopes of circumventing the application process.
But Ford is reportedly sticking to its guns, and will only offer the car post-vetting.
