This year’s iPhone 6S won’t have one, but future Apple handsets could adopt flexible OLED displays, a new report claims.
According to mooted supply chain sources, flexible display manufacturers including Samsung and LG have been pitching the virtues of curved and flexible panels to the iPhone maker.
Citing a unnamed ‘industry source’, Business Korea has claimed Apple is “serious” about launching an LG G Flex 2 or Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge rivaling handset in the future.
Such a move would see the iPad maker move to OLED panels, a technology it currently uses only on its line of Apple Watch wearables.
Given Apple recently filled patents surrounding plans for a flexible phone, this latest report has kicked the rumour mill into overdrive.
Don’t expect to see a flexi phone appear from Apple’s Cupertino campus anytime soon, however, the tipster has suggested we’ll have to wait three more years to get our hands on such a device.
It is believed that LG would be the likely supplier of banana-esque displays, with the Korean manufacturer currently increasing production of curved and flexible panels.

While a curved panel isn’t on the cards, the iPhone 6S looks set to make an appearance later this year with a number of new technologies in tow.
According to recent reports, the handset will play host to Force Touch display tech, improved camera optics, a new processor and the recently debuted iOS 9 operating system.
