Tomb Raider was released earlier this week to great critical acclaim. The new game is a reboot of the original series, telling the story of Lara Croft’s evolution from student to the Tomb Raider the series celebrates. Stranded on a fictional island called Yamatai, the young Lara must survive against bandits as well as nature.
Gone are the trademark dual pistols, instead the new Tomb Raider opts to focus on the bow as the main weapon on choice. This means that stealth sections and the use of the environment to take advantage over her enemies are important tools in the reboot.
Lara’s weapons as well as her abilities can be upgraded throughout the game, as the player picks up parts to help rebuild weapons in poor condition or learns new skills or combat styles. The game also portrays Lara as much more vulnerable character than the girl in the original series, but watches her begin develop a tough outer cover on her emotions as she takes her first life.
Tomb Raider is out now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The Caves and Cliffs Multiplayer Map Pack can be downloaded on Xbox Live from March 19.
