First Retail iPhone WiFi GPS Receiver Unveiled

PosiMotion takes the plaudits.

I suspect it’ll be in version 2.0, but owners of currents iPhone are about to get their first wireless GPS accessory.

PosiMotion is the relative unknown making the headlines (TomTom/Garmin/Navman – ”where are you?” *boom, boom*) and while it is touting the iPhone and iPod touch it will actually work with any WiFi sporting device.

Dubbed ‘G-Fi’, the “small, sleek package” (weight and dimensions withheld) comes with a cross-platform software bundle and will even work on any computer with a web browser and Internet connection. At this stage it is unclear whether the product has been developed in conjunction with the recently announced iPhone SDK.

PosiMotion says full specifications and pre-order availability are ‘coming soon’ (that infamous phrase) so until then I really can’t comment further. Other than to say, a GPS 3G iPhone will almost inevitably be announced in June.

In related news, AT&T has launched the first cross network ‘unlimited’ voice plan. Inevitably it will be on the iPhone tariff and comes in at the pretty reasonable cost of $119.99pm (£60). Hopefully, it’s the start of a trend in the battle against VoIP.
