iPad Mini photos – first complete shots leaked?

Fresh shots of the iPad Mini appear to have been leaked, this time seemingly showing the new device complete and in working order. A release could be imminent.

Last week saw the launch of the iPhone 5, but for dedicated tech-heads the one truly exciting Apple device for 2012 is the much-rumoured iPad Mini.

It promises to condense the iPad format into a 7.8-inch screen and a more portable shell. It’s seen as a rare response on Apple’s part to Amazon’s tablet debut, the Kindle Fire. Of course, there’s also Google’s Nexus 7 Android tablet to contend with in the 7-inch field.

Now fresh leaks from Chinese blog BoloPad appear to show the iPad Mini in full working order. As you can see, the device seems to resemble the new iPod touch revamp, with a flat metallic back and rounded edges.

You’ll note that the shape of the device is also closer to the iPod touch than the iPad – despite that screen, which adopts the iPad’s 4:3 aspect ratio. The side bezels are much thinner, seemingly to allow you to hold the device comfortably in one hand rather than having to grip the side of the device.

As you’d expect from a post-iPhone 5 device, the iPad Mini represented in these pictures comes with the new Lightning connector standard. There’s also a rear camera, which Apple’s biggest compact tablet rivals have chosen to eschew.

So, are these photos real? In previous years we might have had some doubts, but given the ridiculously leaky state of Apple (or rather its manufacturing partners) these days – as seen with its totally surprise-free iPhone 5 announcement – we’re inclined to believe that these are genuine.
