Firefox Hello enables anonymous video calls with no sign-up

Mozilla has introduced a new video calling client called Firefox Hello, which requires no account sign-up or identity sharing.

Firefox Hello isn’t exactly a bold new piece of software – it’s built on an existing video-calling standard called WebRTC. However, it still feels like a pretty fresh idea.

It’s completely free, and requires no software download or plug-in. All you need is the latest Firefox web browser beta installed on your computer, and for the other party to have a similarly WebRTC-enabled browser – so that’s Firefox, Chrome or Opera.

Firefox Hello requires absolutely no account set up like Skype, and it doesn’t need you to adopt a handle or share your handle with the person you’re calling like… well, every other video calling service.

All it does is share a link with the person you want to call, which then establishes a one-off video call connection between the two of you.

It promises to be perfect for those one-off video calls that many people make in their day-to-day business dealings. It’s also ideal for talking to friends and family who don’t use the same video call service as you.

It’ll probably also prove ideal for whistleblowers and super spies keen to keep their identities a secret, but we wouldn’t know about that.

You can give Firefox Hello a try by downloading the latest Firefox Beta for Windows, Mac, and Linux right now.
