Final Fantasy 15 will no longer release this September

Final Fantasy 15 will now launch worldwide on November 29 for PS4 and Xbox One, Square Enix has announced.

Originally scheduled to launch on September 30, several reports rumouring the sudden delay surfaced over the weekend, and now it’s finally been confirmed.

According to a statement released by Square Enix, this new release date “will allow the development teams time to further polish and conduct quality testing so that the reality of the game can match the expectations of both the fans and the creative teams.”

Square Enix has said that this extra development time will allow it to implement Final Fantasy 15’s day one patch onto the disc, meaning players won’t have to deal with a hefty download on release.

Game Director Hajime Tabata also took to Youtube to explain the delay in a brief interview, which you can check out below (remember to enable english subtitles):

“From the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series. Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this… as the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want Final Fantasy XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.”

Day one patches for major AAA titles are renown for fixing game-breaking issues and drastically improving performance, so knowing this will be included on-disc for Final Fantasy 15 is hugely reassuring.

To have such a sudden delay so close to release is still disappointing, though, especially to long time fans.
