Fender Squier Strat guitar features USB and iOS compatibility

Affordable new axe aimed at aspiring musicians using GarageBand app

Fender has released a USB-equipped version of its Squier Strat, which is capable of being rigged up directly to an iOS device.

The “Squier Strat Guitar with USB & iOS Connecivity”, as Fender is calling it, is supplied with a 30-pin dock connector adapter as well as a regular USB cable and traditional 1/4-inch analogue audio output. The dock connector (there’s no word on a Lightning version yet) means that you can record straight to the likes of Apple’s GarageBand app on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Of course, you’re also free to connect to your computer or a regular amplifier too.

The Squier Strat is intended as an entry-level version of Fender’s famous Stratocaster guitar, and as such can’t be expected to perform to professional levels. However, with a price tag of just $199.95 it’s one of the most affordable USB-equipped guitars around, and could well prove popular with aspiring bedroom recording artists.

The Squier Strat is currently exclusively available at Apple’s online store. The UK store at present does not stock the product, but we’d expect it to pop up there before too long.
