Facebook to unveil revised News Feed design at March 7 event

The Facebook News Feed is to come in for a refresh, with new designs of the centralised feature from the social networking site to be formally unveiled on March 7.

Confirming a US based media event for the unveiling on the new Facebook News Feed, an unveiling that will offer insight into the future direction of the globally dominant social site, official Facebook spokespeople have confirmed that the March 7 launch will allow the world to “see a new look for News Feed.”

Currently built around status updates, page promotions and user uploaded photos, videos and location check-ins, the Facebook News Feed as recently been tipped for a dramatic redesign, with latest reports suggesting the social site could adopt a Windows 8 Metro esque approach to its central feature.

Having revised its internal search interface earlier this year, a revision which saw Facebook Graph Search introduced, Facebook’s US based media event, which is set to kick off at 10am PST (6pm GMT) on March 7, is also expected to see the company unveil new mobile plans.

An increasingly mobile company, with smartphone and tablet access now accounting for much of Facebook’s traffic, the Facebook iOS and Android apps, which were last given a total refresh in November 2011, look set to be revised once again.

According to latest reports, the new Facebook apps, which would play host to the same News Feed alterations as the desktop site, are said to play host to a redesign akin to that of Flipboard, with Facebook’s traditional blue and white layout ditched in favour of a more content immersive approach.

Having teased the upcoming News Feed relaunch via a media invite, Facebook has declared simply: “Come see a new look for News Feed.”
