Facebook testing a feature that may ease post-breakup heartache

Facebook is testing a new feature that would hide your ex-partner from your timeline in the event of a breakup.

The new feature will allow people to select from a range of tools enabling them to “see less” or “limit what you see” from the former lover.

The feature also enables users to tell Facebook not to suggest the former partner’s name for photo tagging, while you can also untag yourself from all photos or posts that include the ex.

The idea, which is being tested in the US, is sure to make it easier for people to get on with their lives without having to actually drop the block hammer on the former significant other.

“Starting today, we are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended,” product manager Kelly Winters wrote on the Newsroom blog.

“This work is part of our ongoing effort to develop resources for people who may be going through difficult moments in their lives,” says Winters. “We hope these tools will help people end relationships on Facebook with greater ease, comfort, and sense of control.”

The tool means heartbroken users are less likely to likely to experience the hurt of seeing the partners moving on or, heaven forbid, experiencing joy with a new squeeze.

These new features follow Facebook’s move to allow users to filter out people from the Timehop-clone On This Day tool.
