Facebook has announced a new tool, which allows users to simply follow or unfollow content from within their News Feed.
The changes, which are available on desktop and mobile from today, are geared towards giving users more control over what they see on the Facebook home page.
A new News Feed settings page will now show a list of the top people, Pages and Groups users have seen within over the past week, or a summary of all three.
From this page users can hit the unfollow button in one tap, rather than navigating to individual pages in order to switch off updates from the less relevant folks in your friendship circles.
From the same menu, users will also be able to re-follow the people, Pages or Groups at any time.
If you don’t wish to completely halt the updates from your Facebook frequenting cousin or school friend you can also hide individual stories by tapping an arrow in the top right corner of the story.
Doing so will also give users the option to decide whether they would like to see less posts from that friends.
After a little fine tuning, Facebook should be able to learn which friends you wish to hear more from and wish you don’t.
Frankly, we’d be happier if the firm just allowed us to see all posts in chronological order rather than cherry picking content and delivering rotten fruit, but this is progress.
