There’s now a Technics SL-1200 that costs almost £6k

A British hi-fi company fine-tuned Technics’ new SL-1200GAE. And the result will cost you an eye-watering £5764.
The modified deck is called the Timestep EVOke. Devon-based company Timestep has been working on modifications for the SL-1200/SL-1210 models for a number of years, taking the archetypal DJ deck and transforming it into an audiophile-friendly vinyl spinner.
Technics has already made so many upgrades for the basic GAE model that it’s felt justified in slapping a £2,000 price tag on it, but Timestep has taken the liberty of going the extra mile.

The EVOke sees some of the familiar changes that Timestep is renowned for – a new, external power supply and a replacement tonearm in the form of an SME IV. It also comes pre-fitted with an Audio Technica AT-33PTG/II MC cartridge.
Admittedly, the finished package looks pretty impressive, but Technics itself has not approved these modifications, so there’s no word on an official warranty.
