It’s official: Every Samsung Galaxy S8 will come paired with AKG-tuned earbuds.
Since the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, there’s been a fair amount of confusion over whether the earbuds tuned by renowned audio firm AKG were bundled as standard, or were shipping with some phones as part of special retailer-led offers and bundles.
But in a new post to Twitter, a senior Samsung employee has confirmed that the “earbuds tuned by AKG will be in every retail package”.
Posting to Twitter, Samsung reviews program lead Philip Berne said:
The headphones are said to be valued at around $99/£99, so this means they’re a decent add-on to your purchase. However, without having reviewed the AKG headphones, we’ll have to reserve judgement for now.
In any case, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has seriously impressed us, bagging a top 5/5 score in our full review. We praised the handset’s impressive screen, well-performing camera, and innovative, futuristic design.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 was announced just last month, and started shipping to pre-order customers on April 19. The phone is due to properly go on sale later this month in stores – AKG earbuds included.
Samsung significantly revamped its flagship phone design for the Galaxy S8, adopting a new all-screen front that it calls the ‘Infinity Display’. This meant ditching the Home button and moving the fingerprint scanner to the back of the handset, allowing for more of the phone’s front to be occupied by screen.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch QHD AMOLED screen, an Exynos 8995 chip (in the UK), 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage as standard, and a microSD slot good for 256GB of expandable storage. There’s also a 3,000mAh battery that supports fast and wireless charging, as well as a Dual-Pixel rear camera, iris and fingerprint scanners, and a custom-built digital assistant called Bixby.
You can buy the Samsung Galaxy S8 from £689/$720 in the UK and US.
