The Essential Phone will begin shipping next week, in one colour

Last week, after months of delays, Andy Rubin, Android creator and CEO of Essential, announced on Twitter that the Essential Phone would get a release date this week.

Yes, we got an announcement for an announcement, but now it seems we have an actual date when the long-awaited handset will ship.

As 9to5Google reports, Essential has now sent emails to customers who pre-registered for the phone saying the ‘Black Moon’ version of the device will ship in seven days.

The email was sent on Wednesday, August 16, so those who provide their payment details should receive the phone from mid-week next week.

The email itself read:

“Great news, your phone has been built! We now just need your payment details and we will ship within 7 days.

If you would like to change the items in your reservation prior to checking out, please contact our support team at support@essential.com. If you reserved an Essential 360 Camera, you will receive a separate email as soon as it’s ready to be shipped.

Your Essential Phone is unlocked, future-proof, and designed around you. For a limited time, we’ve also made it easy for you to get the phone for as low as $29.13 per month.”

It seems the Black Moon model will be available before the Pure White option, with Essential giving customers the option to switch their order from the latter to the former if they want to receive their phone quicker.

The Essential Phone’s final release has been a long time coming, with Rubin originally promising in mid-July that the device would arrive “in a few weeks”.

That came after two months of delays, and there’s still no concrete release date for now, especially considering there’s been no word on when colour options other than Black will ship.
