Epic Games Store’s latest free offering takes you to Victorian London

You can get your hands on Assassin’s Creed Syndicate without spending a penny, acting as the latest freebie on Epic Games Store.

The series’ only London-based outing was released back in 2015, before the series took a turn towards the RPG genre with Origins and Odyssey. While it’s not the finest entry, it’s a great game to pick up for free if you haven’t played it.

Simply pop onto the Epic Games Store between February 21-28 and you’ll be able to grab the game for free. If you’re quick, and get on the store before February 20, you can still grab expansive medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance for free too.

The store has been giving away a free game each week for ages now, in an effort to encourage more people to sign up and, eventually, challenge Steam’s dominance as the leading PC gaming client.

When we got hands on with the game at release we loved the setting, praising it as a nice change for the series. However, not enough refinements were made at a time when the Assassin’s Creed formula was going stale.

Now, with the series’ having left said formula behind, it might be less grating for anyone hoping for a revisit. So, it’s well worth a look and come on… it’s free.

Our reviewer, Stuart Andrews, said: “Big, beautiful, rich and atmospheric, Syndicate feels like a return to the glory days of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, where systems and story came together to produce something brilliant. The gameplay that was growing stale remains so while all the gangland stuff can bog things down, but Victorian London seems to suit the series and allow it to play to its strengths.”
