Elephone’s S7 lookalike is available to pre-order for under £200

Chinese handset maker Elephone has launched a new phone that looks eerily similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge, but costs just a fraction of the price.

The handset is available to pre-order now, and not only does it look an awful lot like an S7 Edge, it too is called ‘S7’, which seems a little cheeky. Admittedly, Elephone isn’t exactly a household name in the UK but it’s certainly not the first handset we’ve seen, following hot on the heels of the Elephone P9000, which struck a solid balance of design and specs.

The Elephone S7 comes in a few different variants, but the company’s site only lists the more expensive and higher-spec versions as available to pre-order. Despite offering better hardware than the £115 version, the maxed out Elephone S7 is still less than £200 ($230). For that, you get a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 4GB RAM, a DecaCore MediaTek Helio CPU and 64GB of onboard storage, with expansion capabilities.

On the rear of the handset, you get a 13-megapixel f/2.2 aperture sensor with auto-focus and flash, and a respectable (just about) 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfies and video calling. And of course, it features the double-curved screens on the front and rear just like Samsung’s.

It’ll arrive running Android Marshmallow, and the company notes on the pre-sale page that all orders run an international version of Android that comes with access to the Google-certified services you’d expect on an Android phone, such as the Play Store.

The company also lists details of a 5.2-inch model that shares the same spec list, but there doesn’t appear to be any way to pre-order a smaller version via the site. All versions can be shipped globally, which isn’t always the case for cheap Chinese handsets.
