Major EE TV update announced

EE has announced a significant new update for its EE TV set-top-box.

There hasn’t been all that much of an advance on the core EE TV experience since it launched towards the end of 2014. That’s about to change with the latest EE TV update, which brings a whole host of new personalisation and mobile-oriented options.

The biggest addition is a new My TV section, which remoulds the guide view based on your favourite programmes and channels. It will also integrate your personal videos and pictures, and you’ll be able to flick all of that content from your mobile device to your TV.

Each person in the house gets to have their own My TV profile, too.

The new Fetch feature, meanwhile, will let you quickly select and watch programmes on your mobile device for those occasions when you’ve been outvoted on what to watch. It works for both recorded and live TV.

When you do have full command of the TV, you can use the new Companion Screen feature, which turns your mobile device into an elaborate remote control, as well as offering a sharing function if you’re one of those people who tweets while they watch.

There are also more on demand channels now, including MUBI and a bunch of international options. Still no Netflix or ITV Player, though.

The EE TV update will be going live on August 25.
