EE ramps up 4G+ network rollout in London

There’s no question that EE is at the forefront of 4G infrastructure in the UK, and its steamroller approach is showing no signs of slowing.

The mobile network provider has just announced that it is “accelerating” the rollout of high-frequency spectrum for its 4G+ service in London.

That basically means you’ll soon be getting higher speeds more often in more locations across the capital, assuming you’ve got the right payment plan and smartphone.

The move is apparently in response to increasing download demands – more people want heavy content, like videos, on the move.

According to the provider, customers with 4G+ devices on EE have downloaded double the amount of data this year compared to 2014.

It’s worth noting that the superfast 4G+ networks are only available for customers using devices with Cat 6 LTE modems.

That list includes the the LG G4, the OnePlus 2, and the Samsung Galaxy S6.

EE says that the average 4G+ device owner downloads a hefty 4GB of data every single month, on average.

The service offers peak speeds of up to 146Mbps in London, although it can theoretically provide 150Mbps.

“We’ve built our network with lots of capacity because we knew that video was growing at a phenomenal rate and customers need a fast connection when they’re downloading large video files to their phones,” explains Fotis Karonis.

“We already have 4G coverage for 93% of the population across the UK and that has made us number one for mobile data, complementing our industry leading reliability and voice performance. Now with more 4G+ sites giving double the capacity in the busiest areas, we’re getting even faster for our customers, and that extra capacity means improved reliability for everything you do on your phone.”

EE runs 4G+ sites in London, as well as a number of other busy cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Nottingham, Leeds, Leicester, Oxford, Newcastle, and Bristol.
