EE launches Apple Watch free strap deal, here’s why you should say no

If you’re mulling an Apple Watch Series 3 purchase, EE has a little something that’ll sweeten the deal. The mobile network is offering a free strap worth £49 with purchase of Apple’s top wearable offering.

For a limited time, if you splash out on an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + 4G) in store or on-line you’ll get your choice of additional strap on the house. The available options include the Black Sport Loop, Black Sport Band, Seashell Sport Loop, Pink Sand Sport Loop, Red Sport Band and the Yellow Sport Band.

To take advantage of the deal EE customers can respond to a test after they buy the stunning “new” Apple Watch Series 3, which will direct them to an accessories page where they can redeem the strap.

While a free strap does sound nice, especially if you want to interchange them for sporting and non-sporting activities, there’s more to this than meets the eye. EE refers to the Series 3 watch, which has standalone 4G and GPS built-in, as “new.” It is not. It went on sale on September 22 2017 and a refresh is due.

Apple is reportedly working on a new version which has larger display within a similarly sized physical product. The next-gen Apple Watch Series 4 will seemingly have an improved heart rate sensor with EKG functionality.

We’re also hearing rumours of haptic buttons, customisable watch faces and straps rocking external batteries. It’s also possible many of these innovations are saved for the Series 5 edition of the watch.

Regardless, the offer of a free strap might be worth resisting given a brand new Apple Watch Series 4 is probably a little more than a month away. It’s also possible that the Apple Watch Series 3 will be subject to price cuts following the launch of its successor, negating the savings you make with the free strap. Our advice? Keep your powder dry for now, folks.
