While most of us use Google Chrome to surf the web on our smartphones and tablets, it looks like there could soon be a brand new browser on the block.
Android ROM developer CyanogenMod has revealed it’s working on a project called Gello, an open-source browser based on Chromium.
The Gello team has been deliberately cagey in regard to details so far, CyanogenMod’s Joey Rizzoli has released a short teaser showing off what the browser could be capable of when it lands.
The clip provides a glimpse of a ‘save for offline’ mode, a customisable interface, night mode, full-screen mode and the option to rename files before you download them, and save them in the location of your choice.
One of the biggest features could be the option to configure privacy and security settings on a site-by-site basis. It also looks like users will be able to block ads.
However, it’s worth noting that these features may or may not make it into the final build.
There’s no official word on a release date yet, but CyanogenMod has reiterated that Gello will be completely open-source.

Unfortunately, it won’t be available on older, less powerful devices.
