Almost the last bastion of the high street stalwart Dixons is to vanish from tomorrow.
The Dixons Group that also owns Currys and PC World will close the dixons.co.uk online store as of tomorrow, 8 October. This leaves only the group’s name and a few airport shops left to carry the 75 year old Dixons name.
Dixons has been on the way out for a while after all Dixons high street stores were rebranded as Currys six years ago. Meanwhile the Dixons online shop was also essentially a re-skinned version of the Currys website.
This virtual closure follows the announcement in June that 100 high street Currys and PC World shops would be closed. This is despite the store group making a small profit, attributed largely to sales of the iPad.
