There’s been a lot of talk this week about Nokia’s return to the smartphone market next year, with HMD Global, the company with the Nokia license, confirmed for MWC 2017 in February.
And while we’ve had plenty of leaks regarding the mysterious mid-range ‘D1C’ device, along with rumours of two higher-end handsets, the latest apparent leak seems to reveal something new entirely.
A new Geekbench listing for a “Nokia Pixel” hints at a forthcoming entry-level device, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 dual-core chipset.

That gives the device 1.19 GHz of power, backed up by an Adreno 302 GPU, which frankly doesn’t have us all that excited for the handset’s debut – that is, if this ‘leak’ is legitimate.
The RAM doesn’t inspire much confidence either, with just 1GB provided to support the already disappointing SoC – though, that’s fairly standard for an entry-level device.
It’s no wonder the phone seems to have scored just 404 in the single-core Geekbench test, and 661 in the multi-core stakes.
But it’s not all bad news. If the Geekbench listing is anything to go by, the phone should arrive with the latest Android 7.0.1 Nougat installed.

The as yet unconfirmed D1C is also expected to arrive with Android Nougat, along with a Snapdragon 430 chip and an Adreno 505 GPU, backed up by 3GB RAM.
Whether we’ll see the “Nokia Pixel” – which is not likely to be its final release name – at MWC 2016 remains unclear, but if it is indeed a real device, we’d expect to at least be told more information come February.
We’re also expecting to be introduced to the two rumoured flagship handsets at the tech expo in Barcelona, both of which are said to pack the Snapdragon 820 SoC.
