Devon Star Wars: The Force Awakens watch costs £20,000

Luxury watchmaker Devon Works has made perhaps the ultimate Star Wars tie-in.

It’s a watch that takes its design cues from Darth Vader and the TIE Fighter. It makes the rest of the Star Wars merchandise look like kids’ stuff.

Made from stainless steel, and covered with a black, diamond-like carbon coating, this timepiece wouldn’t look out of place on the wrist of Lord Vader himself. Indeed, it’s definitely on the dark side of the force: the body is styled after a TIE Fighter’s wings, the crown bears the Empire’s logo, the case is modelled on Vader’s helmet and the strap is made of textured leather similar to that used in Vader’s gloves.

It even works unlike any other watch. Devon has come up with a system called Time Belts to show the time. These are electromechanically-powered belts made from reinforced nylon from the aerospace industry, and operate using 313 electrical contacts, optical recognition cells and tiny motors.

It charges wirelessly, with the battery lasting two weeks. And it comes in a natty TIE Fighter display case. To really finish the look, it comes with a pair of TIE Fighter cufflinks. Wear those to your next black-tie do and see heads turn.

As you can imagine, it doesn’t come cheap. It costs $28,500 (£18,518), and only 500 will be made. So only the wealthiest – and luckiest – Star Wars fans will get to wear one. You can pre-order now, with a deposit of $2,500. The 500 watches will be made over the next two years, so you might be in for a bit of a wait.
