Much like its predecessor, Bungie is in a position where it must correct the trajectory of Destiny 2 amidst a litany of fan complaints. The duo of expansions released thus far have been underwhelming in terms of scale and content, failing to build on its ambitious world in a worthwhile way. Forsaken has the potential to change all that, listening to players and crafting something special.
And now, we’re at a crossroads with Forsaken, an expansion which is essentially Destiny 2’s ‘Taken King Moment.’ It has all the ingredients to be truly fantastic, building upon the solid shooting with lore we’re really hoping to care about.

Destiny 2 Forsaken – What is it?
Forsaken is the latest expansion for Destiny 2. Bungie’s sci-fi shooter has received two thus far, and as predicted, its third is poised to be the biggest one yet. It will include a major new storyline alongside significant overhauls to gameplay features, weapons, and an all-new raid known as The Dreaming City. However you slice it, veteran players will have plenty of content to keep them busy.
Destiny 2 Forsaken release date – when is it coming out?
Forsaken is set to launch on September 4, 2018 across PS4, Xbox One and PC. Much like The Taken King, Forsaken will be available as a standalone release or alongside the base game and its first two expansions.

Its release will also see the introduction of Destiny 2’s Annual Pass. According to Bungie, this will include “three premium releases” tied to upcoming seasonal updates. Retailing for $34.99 (UK pricing unconfirmed) the pass contains the following content:
- Black Armoury (Winter 2019)
- Joker’s Wild (Spring 2019)
- Penumbra (Summer 2019)
Of course, players can also expect the usual crop of new weapons, maps, modes and other goodies that accompany standard expansion packs. It’ll likely be a few months until we’re given proper specifics on each content drop, though.

Destiny 2 Forsaken Gameplay – What has changed?
Forsaken will introduce a number of gameplay changes to Destiny 2, many of which fans have been waiting months to see. The weapon system has been completely overhauled as players can now equip firearms of any type across their three available slots.
This includes primary, secondary and heavy; meaning we will have a far great range of loadouts to experiment with going forward. Random rolls are also making a return for all weapons, providing deeper means of customisation amongst fireteams.
Oh, and Bungie is introducing a bow. It’ll be capable of firing deadly arrows (obviously) at all manner of alien troublemakers.

A total of nine new abilities are being introduced for Guardian subclasses, meaning you’ll have a purpose for gaining experience beyond the level cap we expect to be raised in Forsaken. Oh, and say hello to The Scorn, an all-new enemy faction you’ll be contending with. Here’s hoping they provide ample challenge in combat. A new game mode known as Gambit will also be available at launch.
