Dell XPS 18 unveiled at SXSW

Dell has unveiled the Dell XPS 18 convertible All-In-One PC, complete with portable 18.5-inch tablet that doubles up as a tablet.

Hot on the heels of the similar Asus Transformer AiO machine, the Dell XPS was unveiled at the SXSW technology conference in Texas, and runs Windows 8 on its 10-point touch capacitive 18.4-inch display.

“The XPS 18 will change the way people define and use a PC today,” said Dell’s vice president of the Consumer PC Group, Kirk Schell. “Everyone who uses it is shocked and amazed at how light it is and comfortable to use in a variety of settings.”

“By combining the performance, versatility and space-saving design of a traditional AiO with an ultra-thin and light touch display and unmatched battery life, we’re giving customers a whole new computing experience that can go anywhere.”

Dell XPS 18 Features
A full specs sheet hasn’t yet been released by Dell for its convertible AiO, but the Dell XPS 18 will provide a monolith 18.4-inch 10-touch capacitive screen with Full 1080p HD resolutions. The display is a portable tablet that offers a kick stand allowing it to double as a desktop PC.

Weighing in at 4.85lbs, the gargantuan tablet isn’t going to be accompanying the user on the daily commute, but could provide a useful tool for entertainment around the home. The slim screen, offers up to five hours of battery life, but still packs a third-generation Intel Core processor.

The Dell XPS 18 features an aluminium finish on the rear with soft grip, making it easy to carry and comfortable to hold. It comes bundled with a wireless keyboard and mouse for when it used as a desktop, but the “flip-out feet” make it easier to use it in any room, or just use laid flat for reading and browsing in the lap.

Dell XPS 18 Release Date and Price
The Dell XPS 18 will be available in the UK from April 16. The basic version will cost £849 with a dual-core Pentium ULV and 320 GB hard drive, but there is an advanced model offering an Intel Core i7 CPU with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The price for this high-end version is currently unknown.

Do you think a portable 18-inch AiO PC is a practical addition to your home? Would you rather keep the technologies separate? Let us know via the TrustedReviews Facebook and Twitter feeds or the comments section below.
