Dell Teases ‘Adamo’ Laptop

Set to rival the MacBook Air, apparently.

Quite why the New York Times has been rifling around the internet trying to find Dell trademarks is unclear, but the upshot is the revelation of the Adamo brand – apparently covering desktop and notebook computer systems. That by itself means pretty much nothing, but further digging on the part of the NY Times and Engadget suggests that Adamo is almost certainly Dell’s answer to the MacBook Air.

According to Engadget’s sources Adamo is indeed a laptop and Dell plans to market it as the “world’s thinnest laptop.” That ties in with comments to the NY Times from Dell’s Vice President in charge of Consumer Sales and Marketing, Michael Tatelman, that: “I think we need to get some iconic products out there, so people associate Dell’s brand with other things.”

Given Dell’s brand is, to most of us, associated with clunky large corporate machines (the lovely XPS M1330 aside), Tatelman’s comment bodes well for Engadget’s sources to be proved right. Apparently those same sources say that the Adamo was set to launch this month, but has now been pushed back to February. It’s a crazy idea, but could Adamo be ION-powered, perhaps?
