Whether you’re hankering for a premium 2-in-1, Chromebook or traditional notebook, you’ll be delighted by Dell’s announcement at IFA 2018 that its Inspiron range is getting a sweeping update.
Intel’s new 8th-gen Whiskey Lake CPUs make an appearance in both the Inspiron 5000 and 7000, while Alexa also jumps aboard for the ride, so whether you’re a student, workaholic or casual user, check out our in-depth range guide to see whether Dell has the ideal device for you in 2018.

Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1: Specs, release date and price

The new Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 will be available in three different sizes, with 13-, 15- and 17-inch models all on offer. With a machined aluminium design, all three have been updated for a more premium look. Despite the super-slim bezels, there’s still room up top for a camera.
Intel’s recently announced 8th-gen Whiskey Lake CPUs feature here, with the option of either 8GB or 16GB of RAM, which should equate to a speedy performance. Alexa’s also been included as a voice assistant.
Buyers also get the option of a 4K display, while the 15- and 17-inch models offer an optional NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU. All three models will have a USB-C port, Power Delivery and a DisplayPort.
The Dell Inspiron 7000 will be available to buy in the UK from August 30, with the 13-incher costing £849, the 15-incher £849 and the 17-incher £999.

A cheaper 2-in-1 alternative to the 7000, the Dell Inspiron 5000 borrows many of the same features but in a less premium package.
Available in two different models, you still get the option of Intel’s 8th-gen Whiskey Lake CPU here, as well as a USB Type-C port. The squashed-down bezels also contribute to its stylish appearance.
Casual gamer? Then you’ll be happy to know you can get an optional NVIDIA GeForce MX130 graphics card integrated.
The Dell Inspiron 5000 will be available to buy on September 6, with prices starting at £599.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000 notebook (5580): Specs, release date and price
A notebook that may be suited for students, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 focuses on style and portability instead of power.
With multiple colour options and narrow bezels, this notebook really looks the part. WIth a USB-C port on the side, the Inspiron 5000 keeps pace with modern standards.
Pay a little extra, and you’ve the option of having a fingerprint reader built into the power button. A backlit keyboard and NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card are also optional.
You’ll be able to buy the Dell 15 5000 notebook as soon as September 20, with prices starting at £499.

Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1: Specs, release date and price
Specs:
- U-series 8th Generation Intel Core i3 CPU
- 14-inch FHD display
- 128GB eMMC storage
Dell also announced the Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1, targeting those that only need a device for low-powered tasks such as web browsing and watching videos.
Narrow aluminium bezels house the 14-inch FHD IPS screen, while a 15-hour battery life should see you through the bulk of a day without a top up.
The 8th-generation Intel Core i3-8130U CPU should easily handle simple tasks on Google OS, and is accompanied by 128GB of eMMC storage. A backlit keyboard and standard EMR pen round off the rest of the features.
In terms of date and pricing, we’re still waiting to hear more from Dell, but will update this article once we get more information.
