Dell Brings Blu-ray XPS Notebook To UK

Playing catch up... well.

The evolution of Dell’s hardcore XPS range tends to be incremental but it has now made its biggest step forward for some time.

As from now the company’s latest XPS laptop, the M1710, will be available with a Blu-ray writeable drive which is also backwards compatible with DVD and CD media.

To back up this high definition breakthrough the M1710 has a 17in native WUXGA display with TrueLife screen technology enabling 1080p playback, a choice of Intel Core 2 Duo processors up to the T7600 (2.33GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB) and can be crammed with up to 4GB of DDR2 667MHz RAM.

A 120GB hard drive comes as standard but this may be swapped for a 160GBer and a range of nVidia GeForce 7900 series graphics can be fitted starting with the 256MB 7900 GS and peaking with the blistering 512MB 7950 GTX. A free upgrade to Windows Vista is optional since it carries an additional £11 cost for shipping the OS when it launches on 30 January.

Prices for a Blu-ray equipped XPS M1710 start from £1,599 (E-Value Code: UKBSDONL-N12XPS3A) but that doesn’t include VAT and delivery. If you’ve got the cash you know what to do, if not, then a lengthy letter to Santa is going to be required…
