Dell announces first Chromebook, designed for students

Dell has launched the Dell Chromebook 11, the company’s first Google Chrome OS laptop.

Specifically designed with teachers and students in mind, the Dell Chromebook 11 is aimed to be an affordable option when it launches early next year.

“Dell believes that when implemented successfully, teachers, students and technology work together to enrich the learning process,” said Neil Hand, Vice President of Tablet and Performance PC Group at Dell. “The Dell Chromebook 11 is a laptop that is fast, secure and allows easy-to-manage access to applications and content.”

Dell Chromebook 11 Features
The Dell Chromebook 11 features a 4th generation Intel Celeron 2995U processor and has an 11.6-inch “edge-to-edge” screen with a 1366 x 768p HD resolution. There’s Intel HD graphics under the hood too.

Dell will make two different models of the Chromebook 11 available in January, the first will offer 4GB of DDR3 RAM, while the later model will have 2GB of RAM as the cheaper of the two.

With a slim design, the Chromebook 11 offers a 10-hour battery life, a 16GB embedded Sold State Drive for a boot-time of under 8.4 seconds, and a 720p HD in-built webcam.

There’s Wi-Fi 802.11 and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and the Dell Chromebook 11 includes two USB 3.0 and one HDMI port.

Dell Chromebook 11 Release Date and Price
The Dell Chromebook 11 4GB version will be released in January 2014. The 2GB alternative won’t be available until sometime later in the first quarter of 2014.

Prices start a £159 for the 2GB Dell Chromebook 11.
