Definitive Technology Demand Series speakers launched
Definitive Technology has announced its new line of high-performance bookshelf speakers – the Definitive Technology Demand Series. The range is comprised of the entry-level Demand D7, the mid-range Demand D9 and the flagship Demand D11.
All three models use a 1 inch AL dome tweeter, that has been offset by 5° to deliver a more precise centre stereo image by eliminating undesirable symmetric diffraction caused by the corners of the front baffle. There’s also a new 20/20 Wave Alignment Lens that aligns and smooths high-frequencies off the tweeter for improved dispersion and a more balanced listening experience anywhere in your room.
Definitive Technology’s patented BDSS double surround midrange/woofer provides greater excursion and output that results in superior mid-range detail and punchier bass compared to drivers of a similar size. The D7 uses a 4.5 inch woofer, the D9 uses a 5.25 inch version, and the D11 uses a 6.5 inch driver. Definitive Technology’s patented Linear Response Waveguide extends both on- and off-axis frequency response, while improving dispersion for more natural mid-range timbre and more precise imaging.
The Definitive Technology Demand Series boasts a superior level of build quality, with each cabinet hand-built, then meticulously sanded, painted with five layers of premium black or white gloss paint, then buffed for a near-mirror finish. The clean industrial design uses a bead blasted finish to provide a high quality appearance.
The speakers use a three-layer baffle construction intended to create an inert, composite mounting structure for the drivers, minimising cabinet coloration, while the acoustically transparent magnetic black speaker grilles provide natural, uncoloured sound when placed on the speaker.
The Demand D7 has a bass port that provides improved low-end extension by smoothly transitioning air flow from the speaker into your listening area for deep, thus extending bass impact while minimising turbulence and distortion. The D7 also has a built-in threaded screw insert and keyhole slots for easy wall mounting and customised directional firing.
The D9 and D11 use an integrated passive bass radiator instead of the bass port found on the D7, and this produces superior low-end extension. In addition a larger spider reduces rocking and increases linearity for deep, tight, clean bass response.
The D9 and D11 also feature a built-in threaded screw insert for easy and secure mounting on the optional ST1 stands. There are also five-way binding posts for easy setup, thus ensuring the most direct, efficient, and lossless connection possible.
