What else could 'enhanced video codec support' mean?
Those among you disappointed by the news of the ‘social gaming’ features to be added with tomorrow’s update and wanting something a bit more interesting may well now have it. Take this with a pinch of salt, but based on the press release detailing the full list of new features, some are conjecturing that the ‘enhanced video codec support’ mentioned in the details hints at the forthcoming arrival of DivX playback on the console.
Admittedly Microsoft isn’t confirming (or denying) anything right now, but with DivX on the PS3 a definite and almost confirmed for the 360 anyway we have to hope Microsoft did the right thing and stumped up the cash for the license fee. Anyhow, that plea to the common sense department aside there is other stuff in the update too that you might want, although of course you’ll be forced to update should you with to use your console online at all.
As I’ve previously mentioned, a range of original Xbox titles are going to be made available for downloads and I must insist, once again, that everyone buys and plays Psychonauts. Also coming is a new Inside Xbox feed system (as seen with the last PS3 update) offering news about forthcoming Xbox media and the new friends features. The full list of features is both available and excessively long so check it out if you need half an hours reading material and fingers crossed for DivX.
