Crystal Maze set to return? What you need to know about the ‘one-off’ reboot

The beloved 1990s adventure game show, The Crystal Maze is set to return for a one-off charity special.

A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed to the BBC that the show may be back as part of the channel’s Stand Up To Cancer fundraising initiative in October.

The series, which saw members of the public solve puzzles and complete physical and mental challenges in four themed zones before competing for cash in the famed Crystal Dome, earned cult-like status over the course of its six-season run.

Unfortunately, it seems the show’s iconic host, the Rocky Horror Picture Show actor, Richard O’Brien won’t be back to front proceedings this time around.

Instead presenting duties are rumored to be bestowed upon former Doctor Who (are actors who’ve played the Time Lord like US presidents and always deemed Doctor? Or are they former Doctors? Hmm.) actor David Tennant tipped to host.

Channel 4 has deemed the speculation “premature,” while Buzzed said it was “inaccurate.” Either way, it seems unlikely the last host Ed Tudor-Pole will be handling hosting it.

The show will be shot at the new Crystal Maze experience in London. The interactive experience allows teams of 8 to book tickets and play the game in the Angel district.
