CoPilot Live Launches for iPhones

Navigon and TomTom have a rival.

It seems CoPilot wants in on the pie that TomTom and Navigon also have their eyes on – turn by turn navigation for the iPhone. At £25.99, CoPilot Live is the cheapest navigation app to yet hit the store – although you’ll be paying £59.99 for European maps.

Notable features include full 7-digit postcode support – something many pre-installed in-car sat-navs still fail at, incredibly – both 2D and 3D maps, and lane and turn guidance. Multi-stop route planning is supported, turn-by-turn voice commands go almost without saying and automatic portrait and landscape orientation is present. Impressive, considering the app only needs 215MB of free space – that’s less than I’ve had to dedicate to Monkey Island!

Also on offer are live, five-day weather reports and CoPilot’s LiveLink, which provides location sharing and messaging “live on screen!” – CoPilot’s exclamation point, not mine. That suggests, incidentally, that the Apple’s SDK does allow navigations applications to access the iPhone’s data connection. Following on from that, live traffic information is promised to be added to CoPilot Live on the iPhone later this year. Although it’s likely a subscription fee will apply there.
