Cook offers AirPods shipping update, but we’re still none the wiser

If you, like many iPhone 7 buyers, are wondering when Apple’s wireless AirPods will finally ship, there are few better folks to ask than the big boss man himself, Tim Cook.

One impatient Apple fan emailed the CEO to discover when the delayed W1 chip-enabled accessories will be released into the wild.

Cook, as he often does, reportedly replied to apologise for the delay and pledged they’d be on the way within weeks.

The correspondence, forwarded to MacRumors, says: “Thanks for your note. Sorry for the delay—we are finalizing them and I anticipate we will begin to ship over the next few weeks.”

The language is typically coy and still leaves us wondering whether they’ll arrive in time for the festive season.

When announcing the delay back in October, Apple claimed it needed “a little more time” to get the AirPods ready for prime time.

Cook’s alleged update is still very much open to interpretation. In the parlance of our times, “a few weeks” is generally considered to be between three and five weeks, meaning they could still be arriving in Santa’s sack.

“Just take them out and they’re ready to use with all your devices,” Apple says on its website, although iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches and iPads will require the latest software.

“Put them in your ears and they connect instantly. Speak into them and your voice sounds clear. Introducing AirPods. Simplicity and technology, together like never before. The result is completely magical.”

Are you an iPhone fan keenly awaiting your AirPods? Do you have high hopes for the fast-connecting buds? Are you worried they’ll be lost?
