£85 PlayStation TV hits UK on November 14 with three free games

Sony’s PlayStation TV set-top box will go on sale in the United States on October 14, a full month before the UK release date on November 14, the gaming giant confirmed on Monday.

The long-awaited hardware allows users to play PS Vita games, download a selection of classics from the PS One and PSP libraries and stream PS3 games via the PlayStation Now cloud service, which is currently in public beta in North America.

PS4 owners can also play their games on a second screen using PS TV via the Remote Play functionality enjoyed by PS Vita owners.

The standalone micro console, also known as PS Vita TV in other territories, will cost $99 / £85. In the UK, Sony is chucking in a voucher to download PS Vita titles Worms Revolution Extreme, Velocity Ultra and OlliOlli.

In the US gamers can pick up a bundle featuring a DualShock 3 controller, The Lego Movie PS Vita game and an 8GB memory card. That bundle will set users back $140 (which is around £85). That bundle doesn’t appear to be available to UK gamers.

Sony says nearly 700 games will be available in the US and Canada on day one, which is higher than the EU and Europe due to the availability of PlayStation Now across the pond.

VP of Platforms Marketing, SCEA John Koller wrote on the official PlayStation US blog: “With PlayStation TV’s launch right around the corner on October 14, I’m pleased to confirm that nearly 700 games will be available in the U.S. and Canada to play on PS TV on Day One, including established, popular franchises like Killzone: Mercenary, cult hits like Persona 4 Golden, and classics like Metal Gear Solid. In addition, I’m pleased to announce that Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom from Little Orbit will also be available in November for PS TV (as well as PS Vita).

“Our library will continue to expand, with other fan favorites like Minecraft and more. We’re proud to bring such a broad array of content from multiple PlayStation platforms to PS TV, a small console at a great value.”
