Confirmed: iPad Pro has 4GB of RAM

Apple unveiled its enormous iPad Pro tablet yesterday, but it missed out one important detail.

As usual, Apple skipped over the details of the RAM on all of its new products, meaning we had no idea about the memory capacity of the new slate.

It turns out that the iPad Pro actually has a whopping 4GB of RAM. That’s double the amount inside the iPad Air 2.

Apple is usually conservative with device memory. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, for instance, have just 1GB of RAM. That’s compared to the growing raft of RAM-laden Android smartphones, many of which tout 3GB of 4GB memory modules.

Interestingly, the news about the iPad Pro RAM didn’t come courtesy of Apple. Instead, the revelation was discovered on an Adobe blog post about new iPad Pro apps.

“During Apple’s keynote, we also demonstrated the extraordinary speed and precision of Adobe’s Creative Cloud mobile apps on Apple’s new iPad Pro,” reads the blog.

It continues: “iPad Pro is great for creative workflows with a high res 12.9-inch touch screen display at 2,732 x 2,048 pixels, A9X chip, and 4GB RAM.”

The RAM increase falls in line with Apple’s strategy to push the iPad Pro as a productivity-first tablet.

The slate is likely to be popular with enterprise customers and power users, so increased capacity to multi-task and memory future-proofing will prove valuable to users.

Apple unveiled the iPad Pro last night at its annual September launch event, showing off the tablet alongside the new iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and a revamped Apple TV.
