Chromecast UK launch tipped for Wednesday March 19

The Google Chromecast UK launch is expected to happen this Wednesday, according to fresh leaks.

You might be able to get the official UK version of the Chromecast from Wednesday, if these leaked internal documents are correct.

Some internal communications from Dixons Retail have been shared with Android Police, which outline a brand new Google product will be available in stores from Wednesday, March 19 at 9am.

Form the looks of it, the Dixons Retail group began receiving Chromecast stock on Friday March 14, but has signed a non-disclosure agreement with Google.

The actual document doesn’t specifically refer to the Chromecast HDMI streaming dongle by name, but the source stated that this is what it refers to.

Last week, a Currys and PC World employee tweeted a picture of Chromecast stock ready to be sold on the shop floor.

“Looks like Google Chromecast will be available to buy in UK stores very soon!” read the accompanying tweet.

A March 19 UK release date also falls into line with the launch schedule teased by Google’s Android Chief Sundar Pichai, who said the device would be released in “many more countries” before the end of March.

The official Chromecast SDK arrived in early February, which has improved the list of compatible apps for the HDMI streaming dongle.

It isn’t known whether Google will also stock the Chromecast in the UK Google Play Store or for how much the Chromecast will retail for in the UK.

The device costs $35 in the US, so we could see it launch with a price tag of around the £20 in the UK, if the company sticks to a direct conversion rate. Most likely, it will retail for £35 though.
