Chromebook Pixel Google netbook leaked

A video has leaked onto the internet seemingly showing off the Chromebook Pixel, a new Google-endorsed netbook with an HD touchscreen.

The video, whilst not particularly Google-ish in approach, does appear to be very professional. It was leaked by the Slinky agency, which has since revealed that its website was the target of a hacker attack.

The Chromebook Pixel itself appears to be massively influenced by the current Apple MacBook design, with a square, aluminium-like body and a black separated keyboard.

Interestingly, the focus of the ad appears to be the Chromebook Pixel’s screen. As the name suggests, it’s got a lot of pixels. “The more pixels we add, the more wonderful the world,” says a voiceover, and indeed the device seems to sport a similar resolution to(you guessed it) Apple’s MacBook Pro with Retina.

One feature that the Chromebook Pixel appears to have over the MacBook range is a touchscreen, as evidenced by a hand reaching out and touching the device’s display.

So, is it real or is it an elaborate hoax? Slinky CEO Victor Koch has since publicly apologised for the leak on Google , and tagged Google chief Sergei Brin in the message, which would appear to add weight to the video’s authenticity.

Another interesting tick in the ‘it’s real’ column is the fact that developer Francois Beaufort has taken to Google to say, “All I know is that the device is actually tested at Google right now. It has a 4 Millions Pixels 4k Screen (2560 x 1700 = 4352000) and touch capabilities.”

What do you think? Is the Chromebook Pixel a reality or a well-constructed prank? Let us know in the comments section below, or take to the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds to have your say.
